PEPPER MARKET REPORT - KEY HIGHLIGHTS

World - As US Dollar dominated most of the local currencies, pepper prices in May 2022 showed a mixed response with only Sri Lanka local price recorded an increase.

IPC Price Index and Composite Price - Price index of pepper in May 2022 experienced a slight decrease with price index
of black pepper reported at 58.09 point losing a marginal 0.1% while price index of white pepper recorded a 1% loss
at 58.57 points. Similarly, composite price of pepper also reported with a slight dip. Composite price of black pepper
recorded a mere loss of USD 6 per Mt to USD 4.321 per Mt. Whilst, composite price of white pepper recorded a USD 59 per Mt loss to USD 6,060 per Mt.
India - Pepper price for India continues to be reported stable this month.
Indonesia - Pepper price for Indonesia continues to be reported with a decreasing trend this month,
contributed to the weakening of Indonesian Rupiah against the US Dollar (IDR 14,615 @ 1 USD),
recording a 2% depreciation. Furthermore, some areas in Bangka and Belitung have started to harvest.
Malaysia - As Malaysian Ringgit weakened against the US Dollar (MYR 4.38 @ 1 USD), recording a 3%
depreciation, local pepper price for Malaysia continues to be reported with a decreasing trend this month,
while international pepper price for Malaysia remain stable and unchanged.
Sri Lanka - Despite Sri Lankan Rupee weakened against the US Dollar (LKR 358.94 @ 1 USD),
recording a 12% depreciation, Sri Lankan pepper price responded positively this month.
Viet Nam - Both local and international prices for Viet Nam responded negatively this month due to
the weakening of the Viet Nam Dong against the US Dollar (VND 23,200 @ 1 USD), recorded 1% depreciation.
