PEPPER MARKET REPORT - KEY HIGHLIGHTS

01 World - Pepper prices in October 2021 showed a mixed response with a rather positive outlook with Sri Lanka recording the highest increase.
02 IPC Price Index and Composite Price - Responding differently, price index of black pepper recorded at 60.03 points with 3% increase while price index of white pepper at 60.88 points recording a 1.5% decrease. Composite price of black pepper increased by USD 128 per Mt to USD 4,465 per Mt as composite price white pepper lost USD 97 per Mt to USD 6,300 per Mt.
03 India - Even though Indian Rupee weakened against the US Dollar (INR 74.95 @ 1 USD), recording a 2% depreciation, Indian pepper price continued to be reported with an increasing trend this month. The increase of Indian price could be contributed to the subdual of the Covid-19 scare and return of normal life as well as the celebration of Diwali which increased the demand for black pepper.
04 Indonesia - Indonesia black pepper price this month continued to be reported with an increasing trend. Whilst, white pepper was reported with a decreasing trend as less quantity moving in the market.
05 Malaysia - Following six months being reported positively, both local and international price of Malaysian peppers were reported with a decreasing trend this month.
06 Sri Lanka - Following two months responding negatively, Sri Lankan pepper price was reported with a significant increase this month. The increase of Sri Lankan price could be contributed to export demand from India.
07 Viet Nam - Both local and international price of Viet Nam peppers continued responding positively since August 2021 as the market has come to a standstill.
