PEPPER MARKET REPORT - KEY HIGHLIGHTS


World - Pepper prices in March 2022 showed a mixed response with Malaysia black pepper price recorded the highest increase.
IPC Price Index and Composite Price – Price index of black and white pepper reported negative with price index black pepper at 57.82 points losing 3.7%. Whilst, price index
white pepper lost 2.8% to 58.05 points. Likewise, composite price of black and white pepper also responded negatively with composite price black pepper reported
at USD 4,301 per Mt losing USD 167 per Mt. Composite price white pepper at USD 6,007 per Mt, losing USD 174 per Mt.
India – Even though Indian Rupee weakened against the US Dollar (INR 76.14 @ 1 USD), recording a 2% depreciation, Indian pepper price reported with an increasing trend after reported negatively for the last two months.
Indonesia – Black pepper price for Indonesia reported stable this month. Whilst, Indonesia white pepper price remained negative for the last four months as market remained dire of stock and transaction.
Malaysia – Black pepper price for Malaysia was reported with a significant increase this month, while Malaysia white pepper continued reported stable.
Sri Lanka – Even though Sri Lankan Rupee weakened against the US Dollar (LKR 256.36 @ 1 USD), recording a 27% depreciation, Sri Lankan pepper price continues to be reported
with an increasing trend this month as Sri Lanka currently faced its worst economic crisis, inflation rate of 21.5% recorded in March 2022, since the country gained independence in 1948.
Viet Nam – Both local and international price for Viet Nam responded negatively this month as Viet Nam harvest in full swing.
