PEPPER MARKET REPORT - KEY HIGHLIGHTS


World - Pepper prices in July 2022 showed a mixed response with only Sri Lanka local price recorded with an increase.
IPC Price Index and Composite Price - Price Index of pepper experienced a decreasing trend with price index of black pepper
recorded a 2% deficit to 53.69 points whilst price index of white pepper reported with a slight dip of 0,1% to 54.83 points.
In accordance, composite price of pepper also reported with a dip as composite price of black pepper recorded a USD 83 per Mt
drop to USD 3,994 per Mt, first time since June 2021 being reported under USD 4,000 per Mt. Composite price of white pepper was
marginally traded lower by USD 8 per Mt at USD 5,674 per Mt.
India - As Indian Rupee weakened against the US Dollar (INR 79.57 @ 1 USD), recording a 2% depreciation,
the Indian pepper price continued to be reported with a decreasing trend this month.
Indonesia - Pepper price for Indonesia remained negative for the past 4 (four) months which partially
could be contributed to the weakening of Indonesian Rupiah against the US Dollar (IDR 14,983 @ 1 USD),
recording a 2% depreciation as harvest continued in most region.
Malaysia - Local prices for Malaysia responded negative this month.
Whilst, International price remained stable and unchanged. Furthermore, Malaysian Pepper Board reported the challenges
to Malaysian pepper were the lack of interest among the younger generation, higher cost of inputs for farming and
intense competition among other crops such as palm oil and rubber.
Sri Lanka - Sri Lankan pepper price responded positive this month.
Furthermore, the financial crisis continues with the country\'s inflation rate estimated to reach 60%.
Viet Nam - Both local and international prices for Viet Nam continues to be reported with a decreasing trend for the last three (3) months.
US - US and European markets were reported to be very quiet due to the influence of the Global Economic inflation.
In addition, in the past two weeks in many areas, supply has been reported to be tight making it more difficult to make a turnover.
