PEPPER MARKET REPORT - KEY HIGHLIGHTS


World - The pepper prices in the second month of 2025 showed a positive response with no producing countries reported with a decrease.
IPC Price Index and Composite Price – The IPC price index of pepper was reported with a positive outlook as price index of black pepper reported at 92.58 points recording an increase by 2.1% while price index of white pepper was reported at 91.36 points or an increase by 2.2%. Subsequently, composite price of pepper also reported with a positive trend as composite price of black pepper recorded a significant USD 140 per Mt increase to USD 6,886 per Mt. Whilst, composite price of white pepper recorded a relatively higher increase of USD 199 per Mt to USD 9,454 per Mt. Global pepper trade for the first two months of 2025 was reported with a mix response as Viet Nam and Malaysia reported with a decrease of trade as compared to the same period in 2024 whereas Indonesia, India and Brazil recorded an increase of trade especially Indonesia with 114% increase.
India - After reported with a decreasing trend for the last four (4) months, both local and international price for Indian pepper reported with an increasing trend this month.
Indonesia - Both local and international price for Indonesian pepper continued to be reported with an increasing trend for the last two (2) months as less stock reported in the market.
Malaysia - Both local and international price for Malaysian pepper continued to be reported with an increasing trend since last month which partially contributed to the strengthening of the Malaysian Ringgit against the US Dollar (MYR 4.44 @ 1 USD) or 1% appreciation.
Sri Lanka - The local price for Sri Lankan pepper reported with an increasing trend this month as Sri Lankan celebrated its 77th National Day this month.
Viet Nam – Only international Vietnamese white pepper reported stable this month. Whilst. the others continued to be reported with an increasing trend since last month. According to Dak Nong Television, Dak Nong farmers were currently preparing to enter the pepper harvest season. Compared to the same period in 2024, this year pepper prices showed many positive signs, helping people to be more excited and expecting a bumper crop.
Others - Brazilian black pepper as well as Chinese white pepper reported with an increasing trend this month. Furthermore, Cambodian black pepper reported stable and unchanged.
