Overall Pepper market during the month of February has consolidated and not much volatility observed during the month. The month of February has been also the month of harvesting seasons in the India and the Vietnam. As per available reports though Pepper production has fallen in India compared to its projection to the extent of around 20% , whereas production of Pepper in Vietnam is supposed to be better.

During February 2016, the Price Index for black pepper decreased by 6.26 points and for white pepper decreased by 4.49 points (Table 1). The composite price of black Pepper decreased by 5.1% to US$ 8,723 per Mt in February 2016 from US$ 9,189 in January 2016, while that of white Pepper decreased by 3.5% from US$ 13,170 per Mt in January 2016 to US$ 12,706 in February 2015 (Table2).

Pepper prices prevailing in the local markets are shown in Table 3 and 5, while for Fob prices are shown in the Table 4 and 6. For the month of February 2016 generally Pepper price has shown marginal fall in price, in India local price of black Pepper has come down by around 2.5%, whereas fall in price has also been seen in Vietnam and Sri-Lanka to the extent of 3% and 2.25% respectively over the month of February. In Indonesia and Malaysia local price of black Pepper has slightly increased by 3.40% and 3.30% respectively.

The local white Pepper prices has increased in the Indonesia and Malaysia by 5.75 and 3.4% respectively, whereas in Vietnam local white Pepper price has decreased by around 10.70%.The price movements of black and white Pepper has been depicted graphically in the Figure 1 and 3 respectively, where it is noticed that over the month of February price of white Pepper in Vietnam has sharply decreased during the harvesting season prevailing in the country.

FOB price of black Pepper in India and Vietnam has been lower by 2% and 3.4% respectively .Whereas fob price of black and white Pepper in Indonesia and Malaysia is seen stable. White Pepper fob price in Vietnam is seen marginally lower by 1.40%.The price movements are not much volatile on fob basis .
