PEPPER MARKET REPORT - KEY HIGHLIGHTS

World - Pepper prices in August 2022 shows a mixed response with Indonesia recorded the highest increase. |

IPC Price Index and Composite Price - As US Dollar reached a 20-year historical high in August 2022,
the price index of pepper recorded a mixed response as the Price Index of the black pepper dipped by 2.2% to 52.28 points
while the Price Index of white pepper reported with a marginal increase by 0.4% to 54.43 points.
Similarly, the composite price of black pepper was reported at USD 3,889 per Mt, recording an USD 89 per Mt loss.
Gaining USD 23 per Mt, composite price of white pepper was reported at USD 5,632 per Mt. |

India - Pepper price for India responded positive this month which contributed by the rising consumption and hoarding.
Furthermore, higher prices also encouraged illegal imports. |

Indonesia - After reported negative for the last four (4) months, pepper price for Indonesia
recorded positive this month which partially could be contributed to the strengthening of Indonesian Rupiah
against the US Dollar (IDR 14,850 @ 1 USD), recording a 1% appreciation. Customs of Bangka claimed this year
export of white pepper was less than the previous year due to scarce stock, recording a 22% dipped of Jan until July figure.
Furthermore, harvest continued in Lampung region. |

Malaysia - as the Malaysian Ringgit weakened against the US Dollar (MYR 4.47 @ 1 USD),
recording 1% depreciation, local prices for Malaysia continued to be reported negative this month.
Whilst, the International price continued to be reported stable and unchanged. |

Sri Lanka - Sri Lankan pepper price remains positive this month. Furthermore,
the industries in Sri Lanka were reported to be coping well with the financial crisis as increase in exports were reported. |

Viet Nam - Only Viet Nam local price responded positive this month.
Whilst, the Viet Nam international price continues to be reported with a decreasing trend. |

US - The US market was reported with less volume of the shipment traded and it remained difficult
to move up as the world inflation continued to be unstable. Furthermore, there were still less demand and
limited trading activity in the US/Europe with selling pressure from the origin countries. |
