PEPPER MARKET REPORT - KEY HIGHLIGHTS


World - The pepper prices in April continued to show a mix response.
IPC Price Index and Composite Price – the price index of pepper for the month of April 2024 reported with an increasing trend as the price index of black pepper recorded an increase of 2.1%
to 59.99 points while price index of white pepper reported with a marginally higher increase of 3.1% to 60..21 points. Similarly, composite price of pepper also reported with
an increase as composite price of black pepper recorded an increase of US$ 91 per Mt to US$ 4,462 per Mt.
Whilst, composite price of white pepper recorded an increase of US$ 189 per Mt at US$ 6,231 per MT. As observed, export of pepper by some origins reported with an increase namely,
China, India, Indonesia while some major exporters like Brazil and Viet Nam reported with a rather sizable decrease
India - After reported with a decreasing trend for the last Six (6) months, the Indian pepper price reported with an increasing trend this month.
Indonesia - Only Indonesian black pepper reported with an increasing trend this month.
Whilst, Indonesian white pepper continued to be reported with a decreasing trend since last month as less stock reported in the market.
Malaysia - Malaysian local price continued to be reported with an increasing trend for the last two (2) months.
Whilst, the Malaysian international price continued to be reported stable and unchanged.
Sri Lanka - Even though the Sri Lankan Rupee strengthened against the US Dollar (LKR 299.42 @ 1 USD) or 2% appreciation,
the local price for Sri Lankan pepper reported with a decreasing trend for the last three (3) months.
Viet Nam – Only international price for Vietnamese pepper continued to be reported with an increasing trend since last month.
Whilst, local price for Vietnamese pepper reported with a decreasing trend as pepper harvest in several areas had reportedly been completed.
Others - Brazilian black pepper as well as Cambodian black pepper reported with a decreasing trend this month.
Whilst, Chinese white pepper continued to be reported stable for the last three (3) months.
US - Pepper prices in US market had significantly increased.
