PEPPER MARKET REPORT - KEY HIGHLIGHTS

World - The pepper prices in September showed a mixed response as the local currency exchange against the US Dollar recorded a relatively positive outlook since last month. |

IPC Price Index and Composite Price – the 9th Month of 2024 saw positive trend for pepper price as the IPC Price Index for black pepper reported with a rather significant increase of 8.3% to 96.58 points while price index for white pepper with relatively higher increase of 9.1% to 90.48 points. Composite price of black pepper recorded an increase of US$ 548 per Mt reaching US$ 7,184 per Mt whereas the composite price of white pepper recorded an increase of US$ 782 per Mt and reported at US$ 9.363 per Mt. Pepper export of producing countries up to the month of August and September 2024 was reported fluctuated with India and Indonesia reported with a significant increase of 37% and 59% respectively as compared with YTD 2023. Whilst, Brazil recorded a decrease by 15% and Viet Nam a marginal decrease of 2%. Indonesia’s export up to August 2024 had exceeded the total export of Indonesia in 2023. |

India - The Indian pepper price reported with an increasing trend this month. |

Indonesia - Both local and international price for Indonesian pepper reported with an increasing trend this month which partially contributed to the strengthening of Indonesian Rupiah against the US Dollar (IDR 15,324 @ 1 USD) or 3% appreciation. Furthermore, most pepper farmers in Indonesia had finished harvesting. |

Malaysia - Only Malaysian local price reported with a decreasing trend this week. Whilst, international price for Malaysian pepper continued to be reported with an increasing trend. |

Sri Lanka - The local price for Sri Lankan pepper reported with an increasing trend this month. |

Viet Nam – Both local and international price for Vietnamese pepper reported with an increasing trend this month. |

Others - Brazilian black pepper as well as Chinese white pepper reported with an increasing trend this month. Whilst, Cambodian black pepper reported stable and unchanged. |

US - After reported fluctuated in the last two (2) weeks, pepper price in US market reported stable this week. |
