Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, urged IPC to strengthen the cooperation among the members on five strategic important issues.
Honorable Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Enggartiasto Lukita, while addressing the officials and delegates at the Opening of the 44th Session and Meetings of IPC, has urged the IPC and member countries to strengthen the cooperation among the members to come out with the suitable policies for sustainable pepper trade that protect the interest of pepper producers.
In his key note address, Minister Engager highlighted 5 important strategic issues that IPC viz. member countries should encourage the Pepper sectors to contribute in the country development; create more employment and improve the livelihood of the small farmers and traders through improvement in productivity, value addition of Pepper products together boost the effort for market expansion.
Secondly, He stated the need of the IPC Committee on Research and Development to come out with innovative and new technology right from the nursery / production of quality planting materials, cultivation practices, pest and diseases control and post-harvest processing and management to ensure the sustainable Pepper supply
The third issues, Minister added the need for the IPC and member countries to coordinate with all the Pepper stakeholders in stabilizing and maintaining the Pepper prices at remunerative level by providing transparent and unbiased report on statistical data and market information.
Fourth, Mr. Enggar, stressed on the Pepper quality aspect should be the focus of IPC and member countries, as this issue has been the main concern of the major consuming countries of all food items including Pepper, globally. The fifth point, Minister encouraged the IPC and member countries to motivate other Pepper producing countries to be in the IPC fold, so as to enable the Community to be in a stronger position and achieve its broad objectives.
Meanwhile Mr. Iman Pambagyo, the Chairman of IPC (2015-2016) who is also the Director General of the International Trade Negotiations, Government of Indonesia suggested that the IPC member countries need to have G2G approach with the other Pepper producing countries including Cambodia, China, Thailand, and Madagascar etc.
