The President Maithripala Sirisena inaugurated the 45th Session of the IPC.
"The 45th Annual Session and Meetings of the International Pepper Community (IPC) was officially inaugurated by the President of Sri Lanka H.E. Maithripala Sirisena on 30th October 2017 in Kandy. The 45th Annual Session and Meetings of IPC was attended by over 450 delegates from all the IPC member countries and other producing and consuming countries and was organized the Ministry of Primary Industries and Department of Export Agriculture of Sri Lanka jointly by the IPC.
In his Inaugural Address, the President of Sri Lanka H.E. Maithripala Sirisena pointed out the need of a dynamic plan to increase the agricultural exports, while endorsing quantitative and qualitative standards of the agricultural crops.
He also said that the Government is taking steps to strengthen the pepper farmers towards the development of the industry. Even though pepper prices decreased recently, the government took measures to provide the necessary reliefs to the pepper farmers, the President added.
In conjunction with the 45th Session and Meetings of the IPC, a Pepper/Spice Exhibition was also organized and the President Sirisena joined in visiting and viewing this year Pepper/Spice exhibition. "
