ED and Liaison Officers of Malaysia, Sri Lanka visited BALITTRO
The Executive Director and Liaison Officer of Malaysia, Tan Beng Swee, Philip Gaweng, Deputy Director General of Pepper Board, Liaison Officer of Sri Lanka, Dr. MAPK Seneviratne who is the Director General of Department of Export Agriculture of Sri Lanka and other officials from Ministry of Trade, Mr. Ery Yunas, Mrs. Endang etc. visited BALITTRO (Indonesia visited the Indonesian Research Institute for Spices and Medicinal Crops) of the Ministry of Agriculture in Bogor on 12th May 2016.
The visit was arranged as part of the efforts in strengthening the cooperation among the IPC member countries in exchange of information and technology for the benefit and the betterment of the pepper industry.
The delegation was received by Dr. Agus Wahyudi, Head of BALITTRO and other senior scientists at its premises in Jalan Tentara Pelajar 1, Bogor. During the visit Dr. Retno of BALITTRO gave a introductory presentation about the BALITTRO and its achievement in terms of the research works on different aspects of pepper and other spices, followed by a discussion among the participants.
According to Dr. Retno, during the year of 2015, two high yield new pepper varieties were released in Indonesia, they are MALONAN-1 and CIINTEN. This is part of the of BALITTRO involvement in promoting the Sustainable Pepper Production in Indonesia.
After the meeting, Dr. Agus Wahyudi then invited all the guests to have a quick look at the spice experimental garden located near the BALITTRO office where a number of herbs and spices were grown in the area.
