A New Chapter Begins: Indonesia Takes the Chairmanship of IPC 2026

Every ending marks a new beginning. On 29 October 2025, during the closing of the 53rd Annual Session and Meetings of the International Pepper Community (IPC) in Kochi, India, a symbolic moment took place: the official handover of the IPC Chairmanship from India to Indonesia for 2026.

As the outgoing Chairperson, Madam P. Hemalatha, Secretary of the Spices Board, Government of India, delivered her closing remarks with warmth and grace, expressing appreciation to all delegates for their commitment to the global pepper community. She also extended heartfelt congratulations to Indonesia as the incoming Chair.

The ceremonial baton of leadership was then presented to Madam Basaria Tiara L. Gaol, Secretary of the Directorate General of International Trade Negotiations, Ministry of Trade, Government of Indonesia, who received it on behalf of Indonesia. In her remarks, Madam Basaria conveyed deep appreciation to India for its commendable leadership throughout 2025 and warmly invited all members and stakeholders to gather again in Indonesia for the 54th Annual Session and Meetings of the IPC in 2026.
The forthcoming session will mark a meaningful milestone, as Indonesia last hosted the IPC Annual Session a decade ago in 2016. With renewed spirit, the Chairmanship of Indonesia sets the stage for a stronger, more inclusive, and innovation-driven future for the global pepper industry.
