Madagascar is to join as Associate Member of IPC
The Government of Madagascar one of the pepper producing countries is scheduled to join the International Pepper Community as an Associate member following a visit of the IPC Delegations led by the then IPC Chairman, Mr. Vajira Narampanawa during July 2012. During the 40th Session of IPC, the Madagascar Ministry of Commerce has been represented by a senior official. This was the first participation of the Madagascar at the Annual Session of IPC following the invitation extended by the IPC delegation during its earlier visit.
As per the official invitation for making a presentation in the National Workshop on Pepper on the 12th and 13th December 19, 2012 and to discussion with the officials of the Ministry of Agriculture, Economic Affairs and Trade Mr. S. Kannan, Executive Director of IPC visited to Madagascar. During the visit Executive Director has met and discussed with Honorable Minister of Commerce, Mdm Ramalason and signed a Memorandum of Understanding confirming the willingness of the Government of Madagascar to join as an associate member.

Madagascar, on average produces around 2000 mt of pepper and currently the major portion of pepper produced by Madagascar are exported to Morocco, Singapore, France and Belgium. In addition to pepper, Madagascar also produces other spices such as Vanilla, Cinnamon etc.
