VIETNAM IPC FARMERS APP LAUNCH 04-APR-2019
On the 4th of April 2019 the city of Pleiku (Gia Lai Province) saw the launch of a mobile app for pepper farmers in Viet Nam. The mobile app, called the IPC Farmers App, was developed by the International Pepper Community (IPC), an intergovernmental organisation under the mandate of the UNESCAP of the United Nations for the benefit of pepper farmers in its member countries. Further to the successful launch of the App in Indonesia and India in 2018, IPC is now launching the IPC Farmers App in Viet Nam.

A memorandum of Understanding was also signed between IPC and two prominent pepper exporters in Ho Chi Minh City, Pearl Trading and Phucsinh Corporation which are shouldering the responsibility of implementing and maintaining this app in years to come.
The App will provide daily guidance to pepper farmers in cultivation, identification and control of pests/diseases, show training videos to farmers on how to do various farm activities and further educate farmers on daily market prices and market trends, etc. The app has an added feature through which farmers can get expert assistance on issues relating to cultivation of pepper. Farmers only need to take a picture of the problem, type their remark and submit. The farmers will get a reply on their mobile phone within 24 hours.

The launch function was attended by 200 farmers and other distinguished members from the Government and the Industry. Mr. Nguyen Quy Duong, Deputy Director General, Plant Protection Department, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Viet Nam, officiated the launch function and the seminar that followed. Two Experts from Indian Government shared their experiences and provided advices to the farmers.

This project is supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and Viet Nam Pepper Association (VPA). The launch event was supported by the IDH Viet Nam and the People's Committee of Gia Lai Province.

Farmers/Traders with Android phones should download this app on their smartphone from the Google Play Store. iPhone users should download this from the iPhone App Store. To find the app, search using keywords 'Vietnam farmers app IPC'.
