THE 80TH SESSION OF THE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COMMISSION FOR ASIA AND THE PACIFIC

The United Nations Conference Center in Bangkok, Thailand which is also the Headquarters of the United Nations-Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP) was the venue for the 80th Session of the Economic and Social Commission for the Asia and the Pacific held from 22 – 26 April 2024.

The 80th session of the ESCAP Commission officiated by the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, H.E. Mr. Srettha Thavisin with the theme "Leveraging Digital Innovation for Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific". The Session which promised to discuss how digital innovation could be more inclusively contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals across multiple disciplines brought together online and offline Government Leaders and Minister across Asia and the Pacific.
The Executive Director of the International Pepper Community (IPC), Madam Firna Azura Ekaputir Hj. Marzuki and her officers participated in the Session with the capacity of an observer. The Executive Director and her officers are scheduled to have a bilateral meeting with the Under Secretary-General of the United Nation and Executive Secretary of ESCAP on 26 April 2024 in which IPC Secretariat is to update the ESCAP with the IPC Work and Programmes.

During the opening day of the Session, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, H.E. Retno Marsudi affirmed Indonesia’s focus on digital development for governance, economy, and society to enhance public services, create new jobs and economic opportunities & increase productivity which is included to Indonesia’s Digital Vision for 2045. Her Excellency further outlined three pathways of cooperation under UN-ESCAP which included Developing an integrated digital roadmap, promoting digital inclusivity to bridge the digital divide, and ensuring transformative technologies for maintaining peace and prosperity.
