MARKET REPORT

Market this week showed a mixed response. In local market, Malabar black pepper was reported with an increase of 1% when compared to the previous week at an average of USD 4,532 per Mt. Indonesia black pepper was reported with an increase of 1% as compared to the previous week averaging at USD 2,158 per Mt. Whilst, Indonesia white pepper was reported stable at an average of USD 3,962 per Mt. Malaysia black and white pepper were reported with an increase of 6% and 4% respectively as opposed to the previous week to an average of USD 2,304 per Mt for black pepper and USD 3,775 per Mt for white pepper. Furthermore, Viet Nam black pepper was reported with 1% deficit when compared to the previous week averaging at USD 2,358 per Mt. Whilst, Viet Nam white pepper was reported stable at an average of USD 3,468 per Mt. Sri Lanka black pepper was reported with 1% deficit as compared to the previous week and was traded at an average of USD 2,985 per Mt. China white pepper was reported with an increase of 7% as opposed to the previous week and was traded at an average of USD 5,169 per Mt locally.

International market showed a rather stable outlook as India black pepper was reported with the same increase of 1% when compared to the previous week at an average of USD 4,804 per Mt. Indonesia black pepper was reported with an increase of 1% as compared to the previous week, averaging at USD 2,631 per Mt. Whilst, Indonesia white pepper was reported stable averaging at USD 4,649 per Mt. Malaysia black and white pepper were reported stable and unchanged. Furthermore, Viet Nam black pepper 500 g/l, 550 g/l and Viet Nam white pepper were reported stable at an average of USD 2,815 per Mt, USD 2,896 per Mt and USD 4,385 per Mt respectively. China white pepper was reported with an increase of 6% when compared to the previous week and was traded at an average of USD 5,369 per Mt.


EXPORT OF PEPPER BY AUSTRIA

Austria, officially the Republic of Austria, is a landlocked East Alpine country in the southern part of Central Europe. Furthermore, Austria actively imports pepper from various pepper producing countries for domestic consumption or for re-export.

In 2018, Austria was reported to have imported a total of 3,561 Mt which 82% of it comprised of whole pepper. In the following year, Austria's import of pepper increased by 5%, totaling at 3,732 Mt. As of August 2020, Austria was reported to have imported a total of 2,361 Mt of which 1,142 Mt went for re-export purposes. The ratio of Austria's import and export during 2018 - August 2020 are 2:1 respectively. The top five countries of origins of Austria pepper both for whole and ground as of August 2020 were reported to be Germany with 2,103 Mt (Contributed to 89% of the total pepper imported by Austria as of August 2020), Netherlands with 141 Mt (6%), India with 51 Mt (2%), Poland with 31 Mt (1.3%) and United Kingdom with 12 Mt (1%).

In 2018, Austria was reported to have exported a total of 1,729 Mt of pepper which 55% or 959 Mt of it comprised of whole pepper and 45% or 770 Mt of it ground pepper. Austria on average exported a total of 144 Mt per month in 2018 which peaked in March with 223 Mt. The total revenue of Austria's export of pepper in 2018 was reported to be as high as USD 21.1 Million. Thus, recording the average price of the total pepper exported by Austria at USD 13,327 per Mt for whole pepper and USD 10,876 per Mt for ground pepper.

Year 2019 saw a decrease in term of quantity of pepper exported by Austria. Austria was reported to have exported a total of 1,716 Mt of which 52% or 888 Mt of it comprised of whole pepper and 48% or 828 Mt of it ground pepper, recording a decrease of 1% when compared to 2018. The average export of pepper by Austria in 2019 was reported to be 143 Mt per month which peaked in October with 172 Mt. In accordance with decreasing in term of quantity, Austria's revenue from pepper export was reported with a decrease of 13% as compared to the previous year to a total of USD 18.3 Million. Thus, recording an average price of the total pepper exported by Austria at USD 12,993 per Mt for whole pepper and USD 8,183 per Mt for ground pepper or a decrease of 3% and 25% respectively as compared to 2018.

As of August 2020, Austria was reported to have exported a total of 1,142 Mt which 57% or 654 Mt of it comprised of whole pepper and 43% or 488 Mt of it ground pepper. Thus, recording an increase of 1% when compared to the same period in 2019. As of August 2020, the total revenue of pepper export by Austria was reported to have reached USD 12.7 Million, recording an increase of 5% as compared to the same period in 2019. The average price of the total pepper exported by Austria as of August 2020 was reported to be USD 13,625 per Mt for whole pepper and USD 7,907 per Mt for ground pepper.

Pepper from Austria is traded worldwide. As of August 2020, Austria's top 5 country destinations for its pepper were reported to be Russia with 283 Mt (an increase of 13% as compared to the same period in 2019), Germany with 81 Mt (a decrease of 0.4%), Czech Republic with 45 Mt (an increase of 32%), Poland with 38 Mt (an increase of 2%) and Hungary with 35 Mt (a decrease of 10%). The decrease of Austria's pepper export to Hungary was the result of Hungary directly imported pepper from producing country such as Viet Nam (an increase of 154% or 65 Mt as compared to the same period in 2019) and also imported pepper from the pepper export hub of the European countries such as Netherlands (an increase of 25% or 64 Mt) and Germany (an increase of 94% or 43 Mt).
