During the reporting period Black pepper prices in Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Sri Lanka indicated lower value in comparison to the previous week. Only in India prices indicated about 1% increase over the previous week. Prices of White pepper in Indonesia indicated about 1% increase while prices in Malaysia indicated 2% decline. In general market situation was stable and calm.
SPECIAL REPORT:
After the 42nd Annual Session of IPC held in Ho Chi Minh City, inquiries on future of Pepper industry and market situation seems to be higher than the normal. Favorable environment created during the session for all the stake holders to exchange their views may have increased the interest on Pepper industry. IPC secretariat is continuing the information exchange among member countries related to the decisions arrived at the meetings. Quality related issues and proposed IPC standards for Pepper and Pepper products have been taken into consideration at the ASTA meeting as well and proposed standards by ASTA also has been circulated parallel to that.
