In anticipation of the 41st Session and other Meetings of IPC to be held on 11-13 November 2013 in Sarawak, Malaysia, the market of pepper continued to be firmer and prices at all producing countries increased further. In Sri Lanka, the increase was up to 4% and in Vietnam it was 2%. In Lampung local price of black pepper increased to IDR 75,500 per kg from IDR 74,000 last week. Marginal increase of IDR 1,000 per kg was recorded in Bangka. In dollar terms however, the price decreased marginally. Price increase was also recorded in India from INR 458 per kg to 467 on Thursday. During the week under review, pepper prices in Sarawak were reported stable. In dollar terms however, local price decreased marginally due to weakening of Malaysian Ringgit against US dollar.
From Brazil it was reported that pepper harvest has completed and the output is around 33,000 mt. Total export of pepper this year is estimated around 28,000 mt as against 29,200 mt last year.
