The market was relatively unchanged despite of pepper harvest in Indonesia has started. Small activity has recorded in local market. Arrival in Lampung is reportedly delayed because of the raining almost every day. It is a normal phenomenon during harvesting season. The pepper price in Lampung experienced a marginal decrease, although production is estimated to be much lower compared to last year output. In Dollar terms the price decreased by 2%. Weakening of local currency against US Dollar is also contributing to the decrease. In Bangka, the harvest is also continuing. Small portion of new material has arrived in the market to meet immediate need in anticipation of Lebaran celebration. Due to this situation, a marginal decrease in price was recorded. Price decrease was also recorded in Sri Lanka. In India, local price was stable, while fob price decreased marginally. In Vietnam, the prices continued to be stable both in local as well as fob prices. In Sarawak pepper prices experienced a marginal increase both in local as well as fob price.
EXPORT OF PEPPER FROM MALAYSIA:
During January - June 2013, Malaysia is estimated to have exported 4,939 mt of pepper, comprising 4,062 mt of black, 873 mt of white and 4 mt of green pepper. Compared to exports in the corresponding period of last year, the export has experienced an increase by around 7%. Considering the anticipated good harvest this year, export of pepper in 2013 is expected to be higher from 10,588 mt exported in 2012.
