The increase is likely due to stocks in producing countries has limited. In Brazil, the output of recent harvest is also not as good as estimated earlier. From India it was reported that the harvest is delayed due to unfavourable weather condition and output of current harvest would be lower than earlier estimation.

EXPORT OF PEPPER FROM BRAZIL:
Pepper harvest in Brazil has completed. Initial estimate on the output of this year harvest was at the level of 45,000 Mt. But some source anticipated real output would be lower than earlier estimate, as indicated by lower exports achieved during the first ten months this year.
In October 2016, export of pepper from Brazil was in increasing trend compared to exports in the previous three months. When compared to export in the previous year however, export in October 2016 decreased significantly by 31% from export in October 2015. During January - October 2016, export of pepper from Brazil was 23,680 Mt, a decrease of 12% when compared to export in the same period last year. This ten months export performance reflected situation of lower output of this year harvest. Major share of Brazilian pepper was exported to Germany and the United States. The two countries absorbed 55% of Brazilian pepper export (Germany 32% and USA 24%).
