The market at sources showed a mixed response with limited activities. A marginal increase was recorded in Lampung and Sri Lanka; while in India and Malaysia the prices were reported stable. A marginal decrease in dollar terms in local market of Sarawak was noted due to a weakening of Malaysian Ringgit against the US dollar. In Vietnam, local price of black pepper showed a decreasing trend during the week, from VND 146,500 to VND 142,500 per Kg at the weekÔÇÖs close. Local price of white pepper in Bangka was also decreased by 3%. Less demand was reported as the reason for the decrease.

IMPORT OF PEPPER BY CANADA:
Annual pepper import by Canada was around 6,000 Mt. Out of this around 55% was whole pepper and 45% was ground pepper. Canada imported 6,288Mt of pepper, comprising of 3,532Mt of whole and 2,754Mt of ground pepper in 2015 reporting 6% increase against 2014. During January - June 2016, Canada has imported 3,147 Mt of pepper (1,803 Mt of whole and 1,344 Mt of ground pepper) showing a marginal increase of 1% from the same period of the last year. Vietnam remained the main source of whole pepper for Canada since 2012, replacing domination of India the traditional source for Canada to the second position. United States remained the main source of ground pepper for Canada.
