IMPORT OF PEPPER BY UNITED KINGDOM:
In the last decade, Import of pepper into the United Kingdom has increased significantly, from 7,200 Mt in 2007 to 12,900 in 2013. However due to tight supply situation from producing countries during 2014, import of the United Kingdom decreased by 2,000 Mt to nearly 11,000 Mt. In the year 2015, import of pepper into UK has again increased to 12,100 mt which is mainly due to the better supply from Indonesia and India.

It is interesting to note that, significant increase of pepper imported into the United Kingdom was ground pepper, while import of whole pepper was relatively stagnant at around 3-4,000 Mt. In 2004 import of ground pepper was 2,100 Mt, increased substantially to 9,100 Mt in 2013. In 2014 import of ground pepper decreased to 7,700 Mt and increased again to 8,100 Mt in 2015. In 2016, import of the United Kingdom is estimated to be at the same level of last year, as indicated by the import performance in January - march 2016 as shown in the following table. Vietnam was the main pepper supplier for United Kingdom, followed by India in respect of whole pepper. Netherlands and France also supplied significant quantity of ground pepper into United Kingdom.
