The market showed increase in prices of white pepper and black pepper except in Malaysia. Price increase was more dominated by black pepper than white pepper. The price increase in Indonesia was assumed due to the declining stock of pepper considering it had passed the harvest season. Pepper prices in Viet Nam were relatively stable except for the price of white pepper in Viet Nam which increased from VND 87,500 to VND 92,500 per Kg.


IMPORT OF PEPPER BY SPAIN:

In 2017 Spain has imported 4,375 MT, comprised of 3,605 MT of whole and 770 MT of ground pepper, a decrease of 12% compared to import of 4,992 MT in 2016. Up to June 2018, Spain imported 2,756 MT (2,478 MT of whole and 278 MT of ground pepper) valued at US$ 11.9 million as against 2,084 MT worth US$ 14.8 million imported in January - June 2017, recording an increase of 32% in quantity, but decreased in value by 19%. Viet Nam and Brazil were recorded as important sources of pepper for Spain. Up to June 2018 Spain imported 1,101 MT (1,501 MT of whole and 50 MT of ground pepper) from Viet Nam or 40% of total imports. Furthermore, imports from Brazil reached 545 MT or 20% of the total imports.
