WPB Week #31/14, 28 July - 01 August 2014
Due to Lebaran Festival, the market was inactive during the week under review, particularly in Indonesia and Malaysia. Farmers and local traders at these two sources were taking long vacation for celebrating Eidl Fitri. Although farmers needs cash, pepper prices at these origins remained high, even increased further. This situation confirmed that output of this year harvest would be lower. Malabar Black price also increased by 2%; while in Vietnam and Sri Lanka, farm gate prices were reported stable. It is interesting to note that local price in Vietnam is higher than fob price. Stock at farm level is very tight and only available at strong hands. They are not interested to release material at lower level.
