The local market of producing countries showed a mixed response this week. In India the price decreased marginally. This may be influenced by anticipated better harvest of upcoming crop season. In Sri Lanka, the price increased by 2% from LKR 1,154 to LKR 1,178 per Kg this week. In Lampung, Bangka and Sarawak, the prices were relatively stable.
The International Pepper Conference organized jointly by IPC, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and Vietnam Pepper Association will be held at Sheraton Hotel, Ho Chi Minh City, during 27th - 30th October 2014. Nearly 400 delegates of government officials, scientist, researchers, exporters, processors, importers and producers/farmers from producing and consuming countries have registered to participate in the big event.
IMPORTOF PEPPER BY RUSSIA:
Russia is one important market for pepper in Europe. During the last decade Russia imported pepper around 9,000 mt annually. In 2013 pepper imported into Russia was 9,797 mt (8,871 mt of whole pepper and 926 mt of ground pepper) as against 9,660 mt in 2012. During January - July 2014 Russia has imported 4,977 mt (4,484 mt of whole and 493 mt of ground pepper), a decrease of 7% when compared to import of 5,360 in the same period last year. Vietnam was the main supplier of pepper for Russia, followed by India.
