In Indonesia and Malaysia pepper prices decreased during the week. Trading however was reported less due to very limited material arrived in the market. In Vietnam, a marginal decrease was recorded for black pepper price prevailed in domestic market. FOB price of Vietnamese black and white pepper were reported stable. In Sri Lanka, pepper price was relatively stable.

There is no price reported from India, since office closed today in view a National Strike of Labour Union in India. Some source however reported that domestic market showed a slight firmer to steady when compared to last week

IMPORT OF PEPPER BY FRANCE:
In 2015 France imported 10,200 Mt of pepper (7,520 Mt of whole and 2,680 Mt of ground pepper), recording an increase of around 600 Mt from 9,600 Mt (6,700 Mt of whole and 2,900 Mt of ground pepper) in 2014. Brazil and Vietnam were the main source of pepper for France. They together supplied around 45% of pepper imported into France in 2015, followed by Indonesia 12%.

During January - June 2016, France has imported 5,840 Mt (4,310 Mt of whole and 1,530 Mt of ground pepper), an increase of 11% when compared with import of 5,260 Mt (3,895 Mt of whole and 1,365 Mt of ground pepper) during same period in the year 2015. Brazil was the most important source of pepper for France, supplying 28% in the first half of 2016, followed by Vietnam contributing 20%.
