The market watched closely the development happening in producing countries, particularly Indonesia which is reported in the 44th IPC Session, held on 8-11 August 2016 recently in Jakarta. Most of the Pepper players from major producing countries, like Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, China, Cambodia and Thailand as well as buyers from major importing countries have participated very enthusiastically in the above annual session of the International Pepper Community hosted by the Indonesia Government.

During the week under review, Pepper price in India remained high at the level of around US$ 10.33/Kg locally and US$ 10,525/Mt FOB. In Lampung the price was relatively stable. In Vietnam, local price prevailed during the week has moved up almost daily. However, when compared to average price during previous week, the Pepper price was lower. Pepper price decreases were also recorded in Sarawak and Sri Lanka.

SPECIAL REPORT:
The 44th Annual Session of IPC hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Republic of Indonesia and organized jointly by the IPC Jakarta were participated by nearly 300 Officials, Researchers, Farmers and Trade delegates from 20 countries (producing and consuming countries). Papers presented by speakers from the IPC countries as well as spice trade associations from consuming countries were discussed in the meetings. The papers will be made available at IPC website soon for downloading by the registered delegates. Market scenarios for 2015 - 2017 were also discussed at the Pepper Tech and Pepper Exim meetings. Summary of production, import, export and consumption of pepper by producing countries in 2015 and 2016 (in Mt) are given below. It was concluded that production of Pepper in 2016 is estimated to decrease by 5%. Observing the situation it is expected that pressure toward the market will be minimal and price is expected to remain firm.
