At most origins, black pepper pries were relatively stable, except in India. In dollar price however, marginal increase or decrease were recorded in Lampung, Sarawak, Vietnam and Sri Lanka. This was due to fluctuation of their local currencies against US dollar. In Bangka, white pepper price increased, while in Sarawak and Vietnam the prices of white pepper were reported stable.
IMPORT OF PEPPER TO THE UNITED STATES
During 2013, Import of pepper into the United States of America increased by 15% to 71,741 mt (57,752 mt of whole pepper and 13,989 mt of ground pepper) from 62,458 mt (49,561 mt of whole and 12,897 mt of ground pepper) in 2012. Total import in 2013 was the highest recorded so far. Indonesia, Vietnam and Brazil were the most important sources of whole pepper for the United States, supplying 20,380 mt (35%), 18,544 mt (32%) and 13,175 mt (22%) respectively. These three countries account for a share of 90% of whole pepper to the United States. India, the other important producing countries supplied 4,363 mt (8%). In the case of ground pepper, India and Vietnam were the main suppliers, exporting 6,013 mt (43%) and 4,838 mt (35%) respectively. These two countries together supplied 78% of ground pepper to the United States. Other important countries supplying ground pepper into the US market were Germany and China
