MARKET REPORT
Market this week showed a mixed response. In local market, Malabar black pepper was reported stable with a marginal decrease at an average of USD 4,363 per Mt. Indonesia black and white pepper were reported stable with a marginal increase averaging at USD 2,042 per Mt for black pepper and USD 3,641 per Mt for white pepper as the country took a three-days break celebrating the Birthday of Prophet Muhammad. Malaysia black and white pepper were reported with 3% and 2% deficit respectively as opposed to the previous week and was traded at an average of USD 2,119 per Mt for black pepper and USD 3,562 per Mt for white pepper. Furthermore, Viet Nam black and white pepper were reported with an increase of 4% and 3% respectively as opposed to the previous week to an average of USD 2,223 per Mt for black pepper and USD 3,041 per Mt for white pepper. Sri Lanka black pepper was reported with 3% deficit as compared to the previous week and was traded at an average of USD 2,919 per Mt. China white pepper was reported with an increase of 3% when compared to the previous week and was traded at an average of USD 4,638 per Mt locally.
International market also showed a mixed response. India black pepper was reported stable with a marginal decrease at an average of USD 4,634 per Mt. Indonesia black and white pepper were reported steady with a marginal increase at an average of USD 2,492 per Mt for black pepper and USD 4,282 per Mt for white pepper. Malaysia black and white pepper were reported with 1% deficit respectively when compared to the previous week to an average of USD 3,675 per Mt for black pepper and USD 4,900 per Mt for white pepper. Furthermore, Viet Nam black pepper 500 g/l, 550 g/l and Viet Nam white pepper were reported with an increase of 2% respectively when compared to the previous week averaging at USD 2,655 per Mt, USD 2,736 per Mt and USD 4,225 per Mt. China white pepper was reported with an increase of 3% as opposed to the previous week and was traded at an average of USD 4,838 per Mt internationally.
Global pepper consumers are expected to increase their purchase on the 4th quarter of the 2020 to supplement production in 2021. Furthermore, as a result of the tight stock prices of spices have been reported impressively. Muntok white pepper in US Market for CF November/December was reported at USD 4.400 per Mt.
EXPORT OF PEPPER BY POLAND
Poland, officially the Republic of Poland, is a country located in Central Europe. Furthermore, Poland is one of the countries in Europe that actively imports pepper from various pepper producing countries whether for its domestic consumption or for re-export.
In 2018, Poland was reported to have imported a total of 7,251 Mt which 83% of it comprised of whole pepper. In the following year, Poland's import of pepper increased by 17%, totaling at 8,484 Mt. As of July 2020, Poland was reported to have imported a total of 3,988 Mt of which 1,049 Mt went for re-export purposes. The ratio of Poland's import and export during 2018-July 2020 are 4:1 respectively. The top five countries of origins of Poland pepper both for whole and ground as of July 2020 were reported to be Viet Nam with 1,665 Mt (Contributed to 42% of the total pepper imported by Poland as of July 2020), Germany with 1,016 Mt (25%), France with 891 Mt (22%), Netherlands with 138 Mt (3%) and Brazil with 85 Mt (2%).
In 2018, Poland was reported to have exported a total of 1,640 Mt of pepper which 42% or 684 Mt of it comprised of whole pepper and 58% or 956 Mt of it ground pepper. Poland on average exported a total of 137 Mt per month in 2018 which peaked in October with 191 Mt. The total revenue of Poland's export of pepper in 2018 was reported to be as high as USD 13.0 Million. Thus, recording the average price of the total pepper exported by Poland at USD 7,824 per Mt for whole pepper and USD 8,073 per Mt for ground pepper.
Year 2019 saw an increase in term of quantity of pepper exported by Poland. Poland was reported to have exported a total of 1,917 Mt of which 44% or 843 Mt of it comprised of whole pepper and 56% or 1,074 Mt of it ground pepper, recording an increase of 17% when compared to 2018. The average export of pepper by Poland in 2019 was reported to be 160 Mt per month which peaked in November with 270 Mt. Although increasing in term of quantity, Poland's revenue from pepper export was reported with a decrease of 10% as compared to the previous year to a total of USD 11.7 Million. Thus, recording an average price of the total pepper exported by Poland at USD 5,990 per Mt for whole pepper and USD 6,197 per Mt for ground pepper or a decrease of 23% respectively as compared to 2018.
As of July 2020, Poland was reported to have exported a total of 1,049 Mt which 54% or 569 Mt of it comprised of whole pepper and 46% or 480 Mt of it ground pepper. Thus, recording an increase of 10% when compared to the same period in 2019. As of July 2020, the total revenue of pepper export by Poland was reported to only reached USD 5.8 Million, recording a decrease of 6% as compared to the same period in 2019. The average price of the total pepper exported by Poland as of July 2020 was reported to be USD 5,139 per Mt for whole pepper and USD 6,132 per Mt for ground pepper.
Pepper from Poland is traded worldwide with most of them being European countries. As of July 2020, Poland's top 5 country destinations for its pepper were reported to be Russia with 188 Mt (a decrease of 16% as compared to the same period in 2019), Czech Republic with 180 Mt (an increase of 43%), Romania with 129 Mt (an increase of 17%), Hungary with 116 Mt (an increase of 19%) and Slovakia with 106 Mt (an increase of 76%). The decrease of Poland's pepper export to Russia was the result of Russia direct imported pepper from producing country such as Viet Nam (an increase of 33% or 974 Mt as compared to the same period in 2019) and India (an increase of 151% or 333 Mt).
