Domestic market showed a mixed response during the week. Pepper price in India increased while it is decreased in Sri Lanka. In Vietnam, Indonesia and Sarawak the price were reported stable. Activity is reported to be calm during the week. Buyers are watching closely on crop development in Lampung and Bangka, which is expected to be harvested in July/August. It was projected earlier that output of this year harvest will be lower from last year. Drought season with extreme hot weather occurred in the second half of last year has resulted many causalities in the field; and prolonged wet weather this year is also may be unfavorable for pepper production. Significant decrease in pepper production during this year is anticipated.

EXPORT OF PEPPER FROM INDONESIA:
In the last issue no. 17/16, based on provisional statistics received, it was reported that export of pepper from Indonesia was estimated around 66,000 Mt. The latest statistics reported that export of Indonesia is 58,075, valued at US$ 548 million consisting of 37,869 Mt. (65%) of black and 20,206 Mt (35%) of white pepper, including ground black and white pepper. In terms of quantity the export was considered to be high but still lower than the export achievement in 2012, which was 62,600 Mt. In terms of value however, it was recording the highest received so far.

In 2016, export of pepper from Indonesia is projected to come down and significantly lower than the earlier estimate. It was reported that during the first two month export of pepper from Indonesia was 5,900 Mt as against 4,330 Mt in the same period last year.
