Pepper prices in Vietnam continued to be stronger; while at other sources the prices were relatively stable. In Vietnam, exporters faced difficulties to get material from local market. There was no market pressure was reported at producer's level as they have alternative commodity to be released. They are expecting to have better price received from pepper.

With the harvesting season of pepper from Indonesia, the 2nd largest pepper producers will take place only in July/August, Vietnam will remain the main supplier till Indonesia production from 2016 harvest enter the market. It is anticipated that the output from this year harvest of Indonesia will be significantly lower as compared to the year before. In India current price remained rules at most top.

IMPORT OF PEPPER BY JAPAN:
During 2015 Japan imported 9,068 Mt of pepper, comprising of 5,251 Mt of whole pepper and 3,817 Mt of ground pepper. The total import has increased further from 8,833 Mt in 2014; 8,514 Mt in 2013 and 8,131 Mt in 2012. The continuous increase of pepper import into Japan at the situation of prevailing high price levels indicated high demand and limited inventory available in the country. During first quarter of 2016 import of pepper into Japan was slightly lower by 100 Mt from 2,392 Mt in the first three months of 2014 to 2,292 Mt in the first three months in 2016. Import of whole pepper has increased by 11%; while for ground pepper it was decreased by 22%. Malaysia remained the most important suppliers for whole pepper to Japan market in the first quarter of 2016, followed by Indonesia. These two countries supplied 82% of whole pepper into Japan. In the case of ground pepper Japan major suppliers were Vietnam and Indonesia, supplying around 80%.
