Except in Indonesia and Sri Lanka, the market remained steady. In India and Sarawak local prices of pepper stood at the same level as last week, but in dollar terms the local prices increased marginally in India and decreased in Sarawak. In Vietnam, local price has shown an increasing trend. The price increased almost daily during the week, from VND 192,000 per Kg at the beginning of the week to VND 195,000 at the week's close. On an average however, the price increased marginally.

IMPORT OF PEPPER BY FRANCE:
France, one of the main important consuming countries of pepper in Europe imports around 9,000 Mt of pepper annually. In 2014 import of France increased by 860 Mt from 8,700 Mt in 2013 to 9,560 Mt in 2014. In 2015, France is estimated to import pepper more or less same at the level of import in 2014. The indication is shown by total pepper imported into France during the first seven months of the year. During January - July 2015, France has imported 5,945 Mt (4,320 Mt of whole and 1,625 Mt of ground pepper), as against 5,880 Mt (4,090 Mt of whole and 1,790 Mt of ground pepper). Import of whole pepper increased, but decreased for ground pepper. Vietnam was the most important supplier of whole pepper for France during 2015; while for ground pepper was mainly imported from Germany.
