Worldwide pepper market continued to be stronger. Price of black pepper has increased further at all origins; while for white pepper was stable, except in China.

Local price of black pepper in Vietnam and Sri Lanka has increased by 3-4%. This reflected limited supply as output of this year harvest was reported lower than expected earlier. FOB price of Vietnamese black pepper, however, was reported stable.

In India, Indonesia and Malaysia the price of black pepper increased marginally by 1-2%, both in local as well as FOB price.

IMPORT OF PEPPER BY UNITED KINGDOM:
During the last ten years import of pepper into the United Kingdom increased significantly. It is interesting to note that, the increase was recorded in the import of ground pepper, while import of whole pepper was more or less stagnant at around 3-4,000 Mt. In 2004 import of ground pepper was 2,100 Mt, and in 2003, it has substantially increased to 9,100 Mt. Due to tight supply from producing countries, in 2014, import of the United Kingdom decreased by 2,000 Mt to nearly 11,000 Mt. In 2015, import of the United Kingdom is estimated to be at the same level of last year, as indicated by the import performance in January - March 2015 as shown in the following table. Vietnam was the main supplier of pepper for United Kingdom, followed by India in respect of whole pepper. Netherlands and France also supplied significant quantity of ground pepper into United Kingdom.
