The market continued to be better. In India, pepper price rocketed to nearly INR 60,000 per 100 kg in Kochi and fob price of Malabar black almost touched USD 10,000 per mt this week. This was due to limited material coupled with good demand. When compared to average price last week, the price increased significantly by 11%. In Vietnam, the local price of black pepper increased by VND 2,000 per kg from VND 131,500 at the beginning of the week to VND 133,500 at the weeks- close. Marginal increase of local price was also recorded in Kuching. In Indonesia, Lampung black was reported stable, while Muntok white increased by 3%.

EXPORT OF PEPPER FROM VIETNAM:
In 2013 Vietnam exported nearly 135,000 mt of pepper, valued at around USD 899 million, recording the highest in quantity and value. United States, the most important importing and consuming countries absorbed 19% of Vietnamese export, followed by Singapore, Germany, United Arab Emirates and Netherlands. Given the situation of high carry over stock at the beginning of this year coupled with new material from initial harvest this year, export of pepper from Vietnam in the first two months of the current year was also high. During January-February 2014 Vietnam has exported 23,739 mt valued at USD 162.1 million as against 21,323 mt worth USD 141.2 million in the same period last year.
