The market showed a mixed response during the week. In Lampung, the market was more active since material from current harvest has arrived in the market. Due to reported lower output this year coupled with the situation of approaching Lebaran celebration, black pepper price in Lampung has increased by 2%. In Vietnam, local price of black pepper increased by 2% and a marginal increase also recorded for white pepper. The fob prices however remained stable, both for black as well as white pepper. In Kochi, local price increased marginally from INR 38,900 per quintal on Monday to INR 39,000 on Tuesday. The price then stood at this level till the end of the week. Unlike the Indian and Vietnam situation the local prices in Sarawak and Sri Lanka, have decreased by 2%. In Brazil, local price was stable at BRL 13 per kg, but in dollar terms, decreased by 2% due to weakening of Brazilian Real against US Dollar. Fob price of Brazilian Black increased marginally by 1%. It was reported that there is no much pepper available in Espirito Santo (Vitoria) remaining from June crop. In Belem, the harvest is likely to be delayed. Currently, pepper available in the local market was very negligible.

EXPORT OF PEPPER FROM BRAZIL:
During June 2013, Brazil exported 1,839 mt of pepper valued at USD 11.6 million as against 1,461 mt valued at USD 9.8 million exported in June 2012, Export in June was the lowest during the first six month of the current year. This situation clearly indicated that stock available from the last year crop in the domestic market has exhausted. During January - June 2013, total export of pepper from Brazil was 14,069 mt worth USD 89.3 million. When compared to exports in the same period last year, there was an increase of 30% in quantity and 16% in value.
