BLACK PEPPER: The market was quiet during the week particularly in Vietnam, Sarawak and Indonesia in anticipation of Lunar New Year holidays. In India, the market also showed a down trend and price decreased during this week. Indicative spot price for Malabar Garbled black at Kochi decreased from INR 406 per kg at the beginning of the week to INR 403.38 per kg on Thursday. On an average however, the price was higher than last week-s.

WHITE PEPPER: In Bangka, white pepper price increased by 2-3%, while in Sarawak a stable price were recorded during the week.

EXPORT OF PEPPER FROM BRAZIL
During 2012 Brazil exported 29,080 mt of pepper, valued at USD 192 million. When compared to the export of 32,640 mt valued at USD 207 million achieved in 2011, total export in 2012 decreased by 11% in quantity and 7% in value. During 2012, Brazil also exported 28 mt of ground pepper as against 35 mt in 2011. The United States was the main destination for Brazilian pepper, absorbing 9,660 mt which is 33% of Brazil-s pepper export, followed by Germany absorbing 19%. In terms of unit value, Brazil realized USD 6,604 per mt in 2012 as against USD 6,354 per ton in previous year, recording an increase of 4%
