WPB Week #48/15, 30 November - 04 December 2015
In the last 43rd Session of IPC held in Mysore, India 0n 22-25 November 2015 it was reported that production and export of pepper in 2015 increased significantly from 2014 and a marginal increase is projected for 2016. Toward this report, a negative response took place in the last two weeks. Local price of black pepper in most producing countries decreased, except in Sarawak. The situation however is expected to be temporary. Due to drought and uncertain rainfall occurred in South India, production of pepper in India will go down drastically in 2016. A significant decrease is also anticipated in Indonesia. Producers and concerned parties at main growing areas in Lampung and Bangka reported that due to prolonged hot weather many pepper plants withered and died. Some source in Sri Lanka also reported that production in Sri Lanka is anticipated not as high as projected.
