The market of pepper showed a mixed response. In Lampung and Sri Lanka, prices continued to move up further; while in India the price decreased marginally. Marginal decrease was also recorded for local price of Vietnamese black, while FOB prices of Vietnamese pepper were reported stable. In Sarawak, local prices stood at the level of MYR 30 and MYR 50 per Kg respectively for black and white pepper. In dollar terms however, the price decreased due to weakening of Malaysian Ringgit against US dollar.

In Lampung, the harvest has completed. Arrival however was reported slow moving. The price increased from IDR 120,000 per Kg last week to IDR 123,500 this week. Similarly situation in Bangka, the market was also slow moving and local price increased marginally. In dollar terms, however local price of Muntok white decreased marginally.

EXPORT OF PEPPER FROM VIETNAM:
It has been reported earlier, production of pepper in Vietnam decreased this year and export of this year is also estimated decreased. An indication of the decrease is shown by the export performance achieved in the first half of this year. As per the official statistics, export of pepper from Vietnam during January - June 2015 totalled 98,020 Mt. As against total export of 120,216 Mt achieved in the same period lat year, a significant decrease was recorded. Highest export axport achieved this year was in May 2015 (18,675 Mt). Observing the situation, it is estimated that total export of pepper from Vietnam this year would be lower than estimated earlier (135,000 Mt).
