Pepper prices were relatively stable during the week. Marginal change of prices at domestic market was due to currency fluctuation. Vietnam, the largest Pepper supplier currently remained the leader in determining market direction. Although IndiaÔÇÖs harvest increased this year, but impact in the market is not significant as more portion of the material is absorbed internally.

In Lampung the harvest is expected to begin in July and market remained almost quiet here, since traders are very cautious to make any offer and taking any position. Considering fasting month is approaching, the market is anticipated to remain calm in another one month. Trading activity in Lampung is expected to be more active in the month of end of July.

IMPORT OF PEPPER BY JAPAN:
During 2014 Japan imported 8,833 Mt. of pepper, comprising of 5,194 Mt of whole pepper and 3,640 Mt of ground pepper. The total import has increased further from 8,131 Mt in 2012 to 8514 Mt. in 2013 to 8833 Mt. in the year 2014. The continuous increase in the situation of prevailing high price levels indicated high demand and limited inventory in the country. During first quarter of 2015 import of pepper into Japan has again increased by 21% from 1,970 Mt to 2,392 Mt. Import of whole pepper increased by 19% to 1,269 Mt and for ground pepper increased by 25% to 1,123 Mt. Malaysia remained the most important source of whole pepper for Japan in the first quarter of 2015, followed by Indonesia and India; while for ground pepper was sourced mainly from Vietnam and Indonesia.
