Except in Vietnam, Black pepper prices have declined in other major origins. In Cochin, projection of better crops coupled with anticipation of release of pepper held in the warehouses for the last two years have pushed the prices to soften by 3% as compared to the average last week price. In Lampung of Indonesia and Kuching of Malaysia, black pepper prices also decreased by 1% and 2%. In Bangka, local price of white pepper moved up by 2% and FOB have increased by 5% as compared to the last week prices due to availability of white pepper was tight.
EXPORT OF PEPPER FROM MALAYSIA:
During January - September 2014, Malaysia has exported around 10,500 Mt of pepper, comprising 9,550 Mt of whole and 950 Mt of ground pepper. The exports of pepper from Malaysia have showed an increasing trend in the last three years. Compared to exports in the corresponding period of last year, export during the first nine months of 2014 has increased by around 23% and up by 40% when compared to the export made during the corresponding period in 2012. However in the month of September 2014, export of Malaysia at 1,136 Mt was still lower when compared to the export of the previous month-s (August 2014) export at 1,633 Mt. Malaysia is targeting to export 15,000 mt of pepper this year. Hence, in the remaining months of the year, export from Malaysia is expected to be better.
