MARKET REPORT
Market this week was reported with a positive outlook. In local market, Malabar black pepper was reported with an increase of 1% when compared to the previous week at an average of USD 4,506 per Mt. Indonesia black pepper was reported stable averaging at USD 2,135 per Mt. Whilst, Indonesia white pepper was reported with an increase of 1% when compared to the previous week at an average of USD 3,953 per Mt. Malaysia black and white pepper were reported stable and were traded at an average of USD 2,167 per Mt for black pepper and USD 3,643 per Mt for white pepper. Furthermore, Viet Nam black and white pepper were reported with an increase of 1% and 4% respectively as opposed to the previous week to an average of USD 2,391 per Mt for black pepper and USD 3,467 per Mt for white pepper. Sri Lanka black pepper was reported stable and was traded at an average of USD 3,013 per Mt. China white pepper was reported stable and unchanged.
International market showed a rather stable outlook as India black pepper was reported with the same increase of 1% when compared to the previous week at an average of USD 4,777 per Mt. Indonesia black pepper was reported stable, averaging at USD 2,605 per Mt. Whilst, Indonesia white pepper was reported with an increase of 1% when compared to the previous week averaging at USD 4,638 per Mt. Malaysia black and white pepper were reported stable and unchanged. Furthermore, Viet Nam black pepper 500 g/l, 550 g/l and Viet Nam white pepper as well as China white pepper were also reported stable and unchanged.
Pepper price in US market was reported with a decreasing trend as well as limited offers. Muntok white pepper in US Market for CF December/January was reported at USD 4.800 per Mt.
EXPORT OF PEPPER BY CANADA
Canada is a country in the northern part of North America. Its ten provinces and three territories extend from the Atlantic to the pacific and northward into the Arctic Ocean, covering 9.98 Million square kilometers, making it the world's second largest country by total area. Furthermore, Canada actively imports pepper from various pepper producing countries for domestic consumption or for re-export.
In 2018, Canada was reported to have imported a total of 7,064 Mt which 54% of it comprised of whole pepper. In the following year, Canada's import of pepper increased by 5%, totaling at 7,385 Mt. As of September 2020, Canada was reported to have imported a total of 5,405 Mt of which 569 Mt went for re-export purposes. The ratio of Canada's import and export during 2018 - September 2020 are 10:1, 9:1 and 9:1 respectively. The top five countries of origins of Canada pepper both for whole and ground as of September 2020 were reported to be Viet Nam with 2,855 Mt (Contributed to 53% of the total pepper imported by Canada as of September 2020), United States of America with 1,040 Mt (19%), India with 427 Mt (8%), Brazil with 389 Mt (7%) and China with 135 Mt (2%).
In 2018, Canada was reported to have exported a total of 674,908 Kg of pepper which 7% or 47,404 Kg of it comprised of whole pepper and 93% or 627,504 Kg of it ground pepper. Canada on average exported a total of 56,242 Kg per month in 2018 which peaked in May with 87,623 Kg. The total revenue of Canada's export of pepper in 2018 was reported to be as high as USD 3.5 Million. Thus, recording the average price of the total pepper exported by Canada at USD 6.56 per Kg for whole pepper and USD 5.13 per Kg for ground pepper.
Year 2019 saw an increase in term of quantity of pepper exported by Canada. Canada was reported to have exported a total of 828,537 Kg of which 6% or 51,298 Kg of it comprised of whole pepper and 94% or 777,239 Kg of it ground pepper, recording an increase of 23% when compared to 2018. The average export of pepper by Canada in 2019 was reported to be 69,045 Kg per month which also peaked in May with 88,864 Kg. In accordance with increasing in term of quantity, Canada's revenue from pepper export was reported with an increase of 20% as compared to the previous year to a total of USD 4.2 Million. Thus, recording an average price of the total pepper exported by Canada at USD 6.55 per Kg for whole pepper and USD 5.01 per Kg for ground pepper or a decrease of 0.2% and 2% respectively as compared to 2018.
As of September 2020, Canada was reported to have exported a total of 569,339 Kg which 2% or 10,495 Kg of it comprised of whole pepper and 98% or 558,844 Kg of it ground pepper. Thus, recording a decrease of 5% when compared to the same period in 2019. As of September 2020, the total revenue of pepper export by Canada was reported to have reached USD 2.8 Million, recording a decrease of 5% as compared to the same period in 2019. The average price of the total pepper exported by Canada as of September 2020 was reported to be USD 9.24 per Kg for whole pepper and USD 4.89 per Kg for ground pepper.
Pepper from Canada is traded worldwide. As of September 2020, Canada's top 5 country destinations for its pepper were reported to be United States of America with 556,398 Kg (a decrease of 3% as compared to the same period in 2019), Trinidad and Tobago with 4,442 Kg (a decrease of 13%), Guyana with 4,000 Kg (a decrease of 11%), Netherlands with 3,385 Kg (2019 n.a) and France with 330 Kg (an increase of 169 Kg). The decrease of Canada's pepper export to United States of America was the result of United States of America directly imported pepper from producing countries such as Brazil (an increase of 54% or 4,253 Mt as compared to the same period in 2019) and Indonesia (an increase of 16% or 601 Mt).
