During the fourth week of January, the global pepper market exhibited mixed price movements across major producing origins, reflecting differing domestic conditions and currency dynamics.
In India, both domestic and international pepper prices registered a moderate week-on-week decline. This adjustment was partly influenced by a depreciation of approximately 1 percent in the Indian Rupee, which averaged INR 91.07 per USD during the reporting period.
In Indonesia, black pepper prices posted a modest upward adjustment, while white pepper prices remained stable throughout the week. Price stability was supported by relatively steady exchange rate conditions.
During the fourth week of 2026, Malaysia's domestic pepper prices recorded an improvement, whereas international pepper prices remained largely unchanged, indicating stable external demand conditions.
Following two consecutive weeks of stability, domestic pepper prices in Sri Lanka moved upward, signalling renewed market momentum.
In Viet Nam, both domestic and international pepper prices experienced a downward movement over the course of the week.
During the same period, Brazilian black pepper prices softened further, while Cambodian black pepper and Chinese white pepper prices remained stable.
From a trade standpoint, South Korea's cumulative pepper imports reached 7,172 metric tonnes during the January to November 2025 period. Viet Nam continued to dominate as the principal supplier, accounting for 6,104 metric tonnes, followed by Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, and South Africa as key secondary sources.
