Market of pepper showed a mixed response during the week. In Lampung, price of black pepper increased; while in Sri Lanka decreased. In Sarawak, local price of white pepper increased; while in Bangka decreased. Prices at other sources were relatively stable. In Lampung initial harvest has started. Immediate need to have cash money in anticipation of upcoming Iedl Fitri celebration, has forced farmers to pluck pepper earlier. Peak harvest of Lampung black is expected to begin in August.

In Vietnam, local price of black Pepper was at the level of VND 209,000 per Kg in the first half of the week. The price then decreased to VND 207,500 at the weekÔÇÖs close. On an average the price of Vietnamese black was relatively stable. Local price of white pepper in HCMC stood at the level VND 269,500 per Kg throughout the week. In Sarawak, Local price of black pepper increased by MYR 1.0 per Kg from MYR 27.0 at the beginning of the week; and for white pepper increased by MYR 3.0 per Kg from MYR 43.0 to MYR 46.0.

EXPORT OF PEPPER FROM BRAZIL:
During May 2015, Brazil exported 1,435 Mt of pepper valued at US$ 13.27 million as against 1,011 Mt valued at US$ 7.95 million exported in May 2014. Monthly export in 2015 has decreased continuously from 4,950 Mt in December 2014 to 1,435 Mt in May. The continuous decrease of export during the high prevailing price reflected that the stock of pepper in Brazil has exhausted. During January- May 2015 total export of pepper from Brazil was 12,890 Mt worth US$ 118.08 million. When compared to exports in the same period last year, there was an increase of 9% in volume and 33% in value. United States and Germany was the most important destination absorbed almost 70% of Brazilian pepper export during the first five months.
