The market is getting hot and hot. In Vietnam and Sarawak, local price of black Pepper increased around 3-4%. In India the price increased by 1%. This phenomenon marks limited supply of Pepper from recent harvest in these countries. In Lampung and Sri Lanka, the market has not been wriggling, since main harvest in Sri Lanka is just about to begin; while in Lampung it is expected to start in July end. Prices of black Pepper at these origins were reported stable. Output of this year harvest in Sri Lanka and Indonesia is anticipated better when compared to the harvest in 2014; but still lower when compared to the good harvest achieved in the previous two/three years.

In the case of white Pepper, the price has also shown an increasing trend in almost every origin. In China, although average price was lower from last week, but daily price prevailed during the week has increased again by US$ 200 per Mt to US$ 15,670 locally at the week's close.

EXPORT OF PEPPER FROM INDONESIA:
During 2014 Indonesia exported 34,733 Mt. of Pepper valued at US$ 324 Million, comprising 19,496 Mt. of black and 15,237 Mt of white Pepper. The export has decreased further from 47,908 Mt (31,347 Mt of black and 16,561 Mt of white Pepper) in 2013 and 62,608 Mt (49,500 Mt of black and 13,108 Mt of white Pepper) in 2012. Out of the total export of black Pepper in 2014, a volume of 15,226 Mt. (78% of total black) was shipped from Lampung, the main source of black Pepper in Indonesia. It is interesting to note that Singapore emerged as the main destination of Pepper from Indonesia, absorbing 23% of total export of Indonesia, replacing the United States, the traditional main destination to the second position followed by Vietnam and India.
