Although pepper harvest is now in the peak season in India, the price of Malabar black pepper has rebound after experiencing a declining trend in the last few weeks. Lampung black also increased; while Muntok white in Bangka decreased by 3%. In Sarawak pepper prices were reported stable. In dollar terms however, a marginal decrease was recorded due to weakening of Malaysian Ringgit against US dollar. In Vietnam, local price of pepper were reported at the level of VND 156,500 and VND 247,500 per Kg respectively for black and white pepper. The prices were lower from last weeks, both in local as well as fob.

IMPORTOF PEPPER BY NETHERLANDS:
Import of pepper for 2014 by the Netherlands, one of the most important pepper trading countries in Europe seems to be higher. During January - October 2014 import of pepper into the Netherlands increased by 1,903 Mt (16%) from 12,134 Mt in January - October 2013 to 14,037 Mt (9,961 Mt of black and 4,076 Mt of white pepper). The import was mainly whole pepper for re-export to the neighboring countries in EU. In the last five years import share of ground pepper into the Netherlands showed an increasing trend, from 1,269 mt in 2009 to 4,386 mt in 2013 and a volume of 5,000 Mt of ground pepper is estimated to be imported into the Netherland in 2014. Vietnam was the main supplier of pepper for Netherlands, contributing more than 60%, followed by Indonesia and India.
