Black pepper price experienced a significant movement this week, particularly for Malabar black due to very tight stock available in the market. Local price of Malabar black in Kochi increased from INR 60,000 per 100 kg last week to INR 69,000 this week. Fob price of Malabar Garbled was USD 11,590 per mt on 24 April. In New York the price of MG1 was reported at the level of USD 12,600 per mt, recording the highest so far. In Vietnam, the price also increased daily. Local price of Vietnamese black increased by VND 10,000 to VND 149,500 per kg at the week-s close. In Indonesia, local price of Lampung black increased to IDR 84,000 per kg from IDR 80,000 per kg last week. Marginal increase was recorded in Kuching. In the case of white pepper, the prices were reported stable.

IMPORTOF PEPPER BY GERMANY:
During 2013, Germany has imported 30,514 mt, comprising of 28,522 and 1,992 mt of whole and ground pepper respectively, as against 27,254 mt (24,806 mt of whole and 2,448 mt of ground pepper) in 2012, registering an increase of 12%. Import of whole pepper increased by 15%, while import of ground pepper decreased by 18%. Vietnam the most important source of pepper supplied 38% into Germany, followed by Brazil 27% and Indonesia 14%. As trading countries, the Netherlands also supplied significant quantity of whole and ground pepper to Germany.
