Pepper prices at most origins have increased further. Trading activities however were reported limited, in view of limited stock in producing countries, except in Brazil, which is now in the harvesting season. Global market is likely to remain tight for the rest of this year as leading producing countries like Vietnam and Lampung are having very thin stocks.

It is reported that the harvest in Brazil is now in the peak season. The output is estimated to be more or less at the last year-s crop level. New material has started entering in the market. In view of short supply at most producing countries, Brazil is now filling world demand. Both European and United States- buyers are active there.

EXPORT OF PEPPER FROM BRAZIL:
During September 2013, Brazil exported 2,946 mt of pepper valued at USD 19 million as against 2,790 mt valued at USD 17.3 million exported in September 2012, registering an increase of 6% in quantity and 10% in value. Export in September has also shown a significant increase from exports in previous months. During January - September 2013, total export of pepper from Brazil was 20,500 mt worth USD 130.6 million. When compared to exports in the same period last year, there was an increase of 11% in quantity and 5% in value. Monthly export performance of Brazil is shown in the following table and chart.
