The market continued to be stronger and price of black Pepper at all producing countries increased further. This was likely due to decreasing exportable surplus of Pepper from recent harvest in India and Vietnam. While new material from the harvest in Indonesia is only expected to arrive in the market by August. Initial harvest in Lampung has started in small portion, driven by immediate need cash money to celebrate Lebaran festival in the mid of July.
In Vietnam, local price of black Pepper increased to VND 209,000 per Kg from VND 205,000 at the beginning of the week and VND 201,000 at the last weekÔÇÖs close. On an average the price of Vietnamese black Pepper increased by 3-4%. Marginal increase of 1% was recorded in Kochi, Lampung and Sarawak and in Sri Lanka the price increased by 2%.
In the case of white Pepper, the price was relatively stable, except in Sarawak which increased marginally by 1%.
PORT OF PEPPER BY NETHERLANDS:
Netherlands as one of the important Pepper trading countries in Europe imported 15.850 Mt of Pepper in 2014, comprising 11,190 Mt of whole Pepper and 4,660 Mt of ground Pepper, as against 15,080 Mt imported in 2013 Major portion of Pepper imported by the Netherlands was for re-export to the neighboring countries in European Union. Up to March 2015, total import of Netherlands was 2,623 Mt (1,880 Mt of whole pepper and 743 Mt of ground pepper), recording a decrease of 27% when compared to import of 3,596 Mt (2,545 Mt of whole and 1,051 Mt of ground pepper) in the corresponding period last year. The decrease was mainly due significant decrease of pepper imported from Indonesia, the second important source for Netherlands. Vietnam remained the most important pepper supplier for Netherlands
