The market prices showed a mixed response. In India, Malabar black pepper price decreased, while in Sri Lanka pepper price show an increasing trend. In Vietnam local price of black pepper decreased from VND 193,500 per kg at the beginning of the week to VND 190,500 at the week-s close; while for white pepper increased by VND 18,500 per kg to VND 247,500 this week. Fob price of Vietnamese pepper also increased. In Sarawak, local prices were reported stable at MYR 25.5 and MYR 35.5 per kg respectively for black and white pepper during the last two weeks. In Lampung, local price of black pepper increased marginally by IDR 1,000 per kg to IDR 149,000 this week; while Muntok white in Bangka decreased marginally to IDR 148,000 per Kg from IDR 149,000 last week.

IMPORT OF PEPPER BY GERMANY:
In 2013 import of pepper into Germany increased by 11% from 27,495 Mt in 2012 to 30,514 Mt (28,552 Mt of whole pepper and 1,992 Mt of ground pepper). Import of whole pepper increased by 14%, while ground pepper import decreased by 19%. In 2014, world supply would be lower, resulting prices increase further. Under this situation, import of pepper into Germany cannot be expected as high as in 2013. During January - June 2014, Germany has imported 12,876Mt, registering a decrease of 18% from import in the same period last year. Major share of pepper imported into Germany in the first six months of 2014 was from Vietnam and Brazil. Monthly import figures and chart are given below.
